This week class were learned about culture diversity in the
work place. How work ethics differ in each generation. Before this I can
honestly say I never really thought of a work place as a diverse culture. I
have always looked at it as we’re all working on the same team for the same
goal. Now I have a better understanding on how ethics, moral values effects the
work place. I learned that each generation has its strength and weakness. It is
important that each generation learn from others and pass on those skills so
this not lost. When I took the leadership assessment the areas I was low gender
egalitarianism and assertiveness. Gender equality, also known as sex equality,
gender egalitarianism, sexual equality, or equality of the genders, is the view
that everyone should receive equal treatment and not be discriminated against
based on their gender. Never taught I had any problem in the areas I scored a
Five. I was curious so I looked six ways to fix gender inequality at work.
1. Rethink
job interviews. Make sure everyone men or women are ask the same question and
offered the same salary
2. Make
gender equality part of training and education
3. Be
proactive about welcoming women.
4. Make flexibility
and work-life balance a part of the wider company culture.
5. Don’t
limit your talent pool. Aim for a 50-50 gender split in all their teams
6 Use
the power of networking. Networking, mentoring and coaching opportunities can
help women build confidence and develop their careers.
As for
leadership assertiveness, I don’t really agree with the test on that. I truly
believe it all depend on the situation. I learned that the development of
ethics and moral are vital to any origination. Diversity is the key to success.
There are over 6,000 languages spoken in the world today, many of which are
spoken by fewer than a few hundred people. The top 10 or 12 languages however
make up the vast majority of all of the speakers in the world. All business should
make the attempt to bridge the langue gap.
My
Quote for the week is
The
beauty of the world lies in the diversity of its people
